Planes, trains and automobiles (and cake) defined 2012

I have been trying to make a list of all the states I visited this year.  It’s a long list:

Massachusetts
New Hampshire
Maine
NY
Washington, DC
Maryland
Texas
North Carolina
South Carolina
California
Minnesota
Michigan
Utah
Colorado
Pennsylvania
New Jersey
Connecticut
Virginia
Rhode Island

That’s nearly half the states – in 12 months!

But perhaps more impressive is the amount of activity I was able to pack in.

I attended 3 weddings, and made cakes for 3 weddings (a first for Ithacake).

Scottie and Tim’s celebration included a live Cirque du Soleil performance.

I spent a week with my bro in a kayak in Canyonlands National Park.

We spent equal time kayaking and swimming. It was 110 degrees most days.

I learned to sew in circles.

And probably will never attempt this again.

I bought a kayak.

I went ice skating, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding and was out on my kayak far too many times to count.

Scott became obsessed with kayak fishing.

I built a garden.

I grew two peppers and a cucumber.

I photographed the full circle of life for my brother’s duck grant.

I learned to paint, with my parents.

I made a quilt for our cat.  Yes, seriously.

And he loves it.

I painted pottery with my immediate family and Grandma.

I made this wedding gift quilt for my best friend from college and his new husband.

I took at least 4 trips to Colorado.

I visited numerous random roadside attractions while traveling for work.

I had knee surgery, and then a blood clot.  My knee is, sadly, still broken.  On the bright side, I now know I can administer shots to myself.  I hope to never have to use that skill again.

I took pretty pictures.

I helped dismantle a yurt and then put it up again.

I inoculated logs with mushroom spores.

I took lots of hikes and walks.

And I made cakes. Oh boy, did I make cakes.

2012 was a good year, and here’s hoping (and believing) 2013 will be even better.

Happy New Year!

Simply amazing; both you and what you’ve accomplished…in spite of the ending of the Mayan calendar. Thanks for making this an amazing year for all whose path you crossed!
